#screenshotsaturday Showcase – 19.03.16

Lots to look at this weekend, though I have noticed that the #screenshotsaturday hashtag is getting “polluted” by non-games content… anyway, on to some screenshots of indie games.

Jack B. Nimble

Continuing with the UI theme from last week, I’ve decided to add some feedback for when unlocks are awarded. It looks a little rough here, but I’ve since polished things up a little thanks to some feedback from various people. You can find additional GIF’s of my progress on the Jack B. Nimble Tumblr.

I’m getting closer to finishing my various menu tasks too. I basically just need to add a couple of in game menu buttons that let you restart, reset to the map screen, disable HUD, etc. I somewhat overloaded the map screen, so a lot of the extra menus such as statistics and full credits are now hidden away in the settings menu. That’s what I get for not planning ahead!

I’ve started to send builds out to a couple of close friends – response seems positive, so I’m feeling good about widening the net and getting some testers from Twitter.

You can expect a video devlog covering one of the newer levels and some of the menu updates in the coming weeks.

Dark Flame

So rather than going with my usual choice of retro first person shooter, I chose a Catlevania-like instead. Dark Flame is completely new to me and I’m not sure how it wasn’t on my radar. It’s obviously taking a huge amount of inspiration from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, so much so that the player sprite looks like a reskin of the Alucard sprite… but with Konami the way it is these days, it’s not likely we’ll get another Castlevania title any time soon, so I’m happy to play fan games in the meantime.

There’s a pre alpha release available over at IndieDB. Like I’ve said many times in the past, I’m not a huge fan of early access/pre release gameplay, but sometimes I’ll make an exception. This is another one of those times.

It looks like Dark Flame has been greenlit too, so it should be headed to Steam in the not too distant future.

I wasn’t able to find much information about this game (strange how often this happens), but I’m a sucker for sleek UI.

Next weekend is Easter weekend, so I’ll be up in Scotland with my better half. You can expect another #screenshotsaturday showcase in a fortnight.
